Shalimar by Guerlain Eau De Parfum Spray Refill 1.6 oz (Women)

Shalimar is beauuuuutiful! I am absolutely captivated by this beauty! This is such a gorgeus perfume it seems like time has not even touched it, there is no single aspect of it that feel out of these times, vintage smelling or something like that. This feels so luxurious in every way; it just gives me shivers! What a masterpiece to stand up to time so well! This is mastery at its highest level. The softness and delicate aspect of this scent is so magical; it feels like the softest and warmest, but the most delicate and pristine cashmere is touching the skin. I immediately think about cashmere fabric somehow. Like the softest most delicate, the thinnest cashmere sweater in soft cream color.... This scent is so so so warm but at the same time dainty and pristine. Wow. I love how beautiful amber and iris notes are done here - not too heavy, perfectly complementing each other. The scent feels powdery but not in a vintage powder scent way, but more like material. So elegant, so luxurious. This is truly luxury and class in a bottle - but not this posh and overly done way but that je ne sais quoi way, that something that's perfect while not trying to be it. Absolutely gorgeous creation; this is a masterpiece!!!!

It was my grandma's perfume, so I guess this one gave me the love of deep perfumes As a child I loved this perfume, rich, deep little overpowering. As a grown-up I still like it for memories, but my nose does t like rose and flowers. And now I can really smell them strongly. Good memories but not to wear. I am not a guerlain's fan, but I can admit the quality.

Unfortunately have not smelt an older formulation, but the modern EDP is so powdery to me that it's almost unbearable. First time I smelt it I really did not understand the hype. It felt like I opened a dusty makeup palette belonging to someone's late grandmother. It almost gave me an identity crisis, not being able to understand why its hyped to much, only to learn that the original was way stronger on the bergamot. That being said, I am very impressed by the olfactory journey this EDP brings you on. There are about 5 stages or so, with the final one being a very warm intimate and pleasant amber that latches on to the skin forever. I'm eager to try an early vintage, but until then I highly prefer Shalimar L'essence, which doesn't try fake being a bergamot scent, and which drops a lot of the powdery aspects, moving faster towards the vanilla heavy amber.

Citrus, iris, vanilla, leather, civettone and incense with a hint of tonka bean. Soft (it has some ambery texture to it), slightly powdery, citrusy, sophisticated, slightly animalic, smooth, sweet, ambery, slightly smoky, antique, and unique. It has good sillage and longevity. For a well-known fragrance, it smells pretty average, but the ingredients used to give it that texture make it unique. I appreciated the use of iris here and how the rest of the notes are composed to support that specific note. However, my expectations were still not met, the Guerlain hype must've got to me. That being said, it is sophisticated enough for me to acknowledge it.
